FBI Raids Brooklyn & L.I. Homes In Connection With Hacking Group 'Anonymous'

BALDWIN, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- The FBI raided raided six homes in New York Tuesday and others across the country in connection with "Anonymous," a group that has claimed credit for disrupting the websites of Visa and MasterCard last December.

One home in Brooklyn, three in Suffolk County and two in Nassau County were among the residences involved in the raids.

An FBI spokesman told 1010 WINS' Carol D'Auria that search warrants were executed and computers were seized at the homes.

The Justice Department said that 14 people were arrested for allegedly conducting a cyber attack on PayPal's website.  None of the arrests were made in New York.

Among the homes raided was at 858 Seaman Avenue in Baldwin. D'Auria spoke with a neighbor who said a 17-year-old high school senior lived in the home with his parents and that he was into computers.

"He's not a bad kid. He's quiet," she said.

Anonymous has also been tied to cyber attacks on the Church of Scientology.

The attacks against Visa and MasterCard were apparently at act of solidarity with WikiLeaks and founder Julian Assange after the credit card companies stopped processing donations to the whistle-blowing organization.
