Shoppers Ecstatic As Fairway Market Opens Upper East Side Store

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Shoppers on Manhattan's East Side were eager to get inside the latest Fairway Market store that opened on Wednesday morning.

Even before the market, located between 2nd and 3rd avenues on 86th Street, officially opened its doors at 11 a.m., shoppers lined up in anticipation.

"I love Fairway. I'm delighted they're here on the East Side," one woman told 1010 WINS' Senior Correspondent Stan Brooks.

The chain has many loyal customers thanks in part to the store's noted fresh produce, imported olive oils and gluten-free groceries.

"I'm super excited. I can't wait. I'm hoping to get fresh food at a reasonable price and excited about it," said one shopper.

"I feel fantastic. I've been traveling to the West Side for months and months and months and I feel great," another shopper said.

During the ribbon cutting, CEO Howie Glickberg recalled how the chain began with a small fruit stand on Broadway after World War I.

The store's first location on the Upper West Side is located at Broadway and 74th Street.

The new Upper East Side location, which is the chain's eight New York City store, will be open from 7 a.m. to Midnight daily.
