ME: 10-Year-Old Brooklyn Girl Dies From Exposure During Heat Wave

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The New York City medical examiner has determined last week's brutal heat wave is to blame for another death.

The death of 10-year-old Brooklyn girl Saturday has been linked to the triple-digit weather that was caused by an oppressive  mix of heat and humidity. The high on that day was 102 degrees at Kennedy Airport.

The girl died from exposure to high temperatures, medical examiner spokeswoman Ellen Borakove said. The cause of death was hyperthermia with an underlying medical condition.

On Monday, the medical examiner's office determined the death of a 94-year-old Brooklyn woman was also caused by the heat wave. The official cause of death was hyperthermia, with underlying natural disease.
