Westchester County Executive Meets With HUD Secretary In Washington

WHITE PLAINS, NY (WCBS 880) - Their meeting was brief but Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says he came to no agreement with Shaun Donovan, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, about Westchester's housing desegregation settlement.

"We're still very far away on some very big issues with regard to zoning and the amount of money we'd have to spend for this settlement, as well as the source of income laws," said Astorino on Wednesday. "For us to have to fight local municipalities, sue them on zoning, ruin zoning, make us spend far more than anyone should, including taxpayers, that would bankrupt us. We're not willing to go that distance, especially since it was not agreed upon."

Astorino says the only thing the two did agree on is to meet again and try to work out an agreement.

"At the end of the day, we may not be able to reach an agreement, but we're gonna try to find that out soon," Astorino told WCBS 880 reporter Catherine Cioffi.
