Council speaker Christine Quinn, usually a staunch Bloomberg ally, is furious at the administration's court attempt to knock down a city law limiting the size of homeless shelters to 200 beds.
"They are in these papers, which they gave us no notification of in the council's office or the speaker's office, challenging the legality of a law that the city has followed for 13 years," said Quinn.
The controversy centers on a proposed 12-story, 328 bed homeless shelter in Quinn's district.
"That's not good for the neighborhood and it's not good for the homeless people," she said.
The council is joining in a lawsuit filed to block the shelter from opening.
