Eagle Scout From Brooklyn Drowns In Delaware River In Upstate NY
NARROWSBURG, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A New York City teenager has drowned while trying to swim across the Delaware River in upstate New York.
Officials say 18-year-old Daniel Rak of Brooklyn and two friends tried to swim across the river at Narrowsburg near a Boy Scout camp where Rak was a volunteer leader.
Authorities say Rak had difficulty swimming in the swift current when the friends turned back and Rak slipped beneath the surface.
Divers recovered his body Thursday afternoon near where he disappeared.
The Greater New York Councils Boy Scouts of America says Rak was an Eagle Scout and assistant leader at the Ten Mile River Scout Camps, a complex spread over 12,000 acres in rural Narrowsburg.
