NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) — Sen. Charles of Schumer says a measure to outlaw the dangerous abused drug known as “bath salts” is closer to adoption.
The Democrat says his bill unanimously passed a key Senate committee Thursday.
The bill would add MDPV and Mephedrone to the list of controlled substances. Thirty-four states including New York have banned bath salts already.
Bath salts are sold online and at convenience store counters like candy, but are abused often by teenagers for a highly toxic high.
Schumer says the narcotic is sold under names including Tranquillity, Zoom, Ivory Wave, Red Dove and Vanilla Sky.
