Connecticut Utility Hotline To Be Partially Salvaged

HARTFORD, CT (WCBS 880) - A lot of consumers in Connecticut rely on the utility toll-free hotline.

They call it when they get notice of a service cut off, for example.

The decision to scrap it because of budget cuts got St. Sen. John Fonfara, co-chair of the energy committee, working to salvage it, at least in part.

He's been in contact with energy commissioner Dan Esty, who Fonfara says is working to keep it up and running, perhaps with limited options.

"There will be continuing some presence in this regard. Not the same size as we had before and that's understandable. But that there will continue to be some presence," Fonfara told WCBS 880 Connecticut Bureau Chief Fran Schneidau. "There are number of issues that do require someone to be there from the department to answer those calls and to help customers."

Last year, the hotline logged 45,000 calls.
