Police: NJ Man Attacks Teen Girl, 3 Adults With Machete

PATERSON, N.J. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Paterson police say a man armed with a machete slashed a teenage girl and three adults after he was found hiding in a closet at his ex-girlfriend's apartment.

Forty-year-old Raul Suruy of Paterson also allegedly started a fire before fleeing. He was being sought on several charges, including attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Authorities tell The Record that Suruy gained access to the apartment around 5:30 a.m. Sunday.

After being discovered by his ex-girlfriend's 11-year-old son, he began attacking people in the apartment. The injured included the 33-year-old woman, her 15-year-old daughter and two men ages 20 and 28.

The woman and the younger male were in stable condition at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, while her daughter and the older male were treated for slash wounds and later released.
