Major Area Airports Reopen After Irene Blows Through
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Some good news today for travelers trying to wing their way back home.
All three major area airports have reopened. They had been shut down by Tropical Storm Irene.
Flights in and out of Laguardia resumed at 7 a.m.
John F. Kennedy International Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport both started accepting incoming flights at 6 a.m. Outbound flights resumed at noon.

AirTrains to JFK and Newark airports were also back in service.
Stewart International Airport was also set to resume service Monday.
Teterboro Airport was flooded and remains closed.
The closure of the airports had a reverberating impact on air travel nationwide, as the three area airports are among the busiest in the country.
"It's important that people call their carrier in advance because while the airports are open that does not necessarily mean a flight you booked three months ago will be going out this afternoon," Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman said.
"Unfortunately, this is an incredibly busy travel time of the year planes are fully booked and it's difficult for the airlines, given basically two lost days, to recover very quickly," Coleman said.
