Medford Pharmacy Massacre Suspect Laffer, Wife Expected To Plead Guilty

RIVERHEAD, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) – David Laffer, the suspect charged with killing four people at a Medford pharmacy in June, is expected to plead guilty on Thursday.

1010 WINS has learned that the 33-year-old will plead guilty before a judge in a Suffolk County courtroom.

His wife Melinda Brady, who is charged with robbery and obstruction, is also expected to plead guilty on Thursday.

"I was told that both of them would be pleading guilty," said Daniel Taccetta, brother of victim Jamie Taccetta.

Jamie was one of four victims killed in the execution-style murders at Haven Pharmacy on Father's Day. Also killed were Raymond Ferguson, Jennifer Mejia and Bryon Sheffield.

Relatives have been told to be in court on Thursday. Taccetta says he'll sit silently even though he feels like lashing out at Laffer and his wife.

"Tomorrow will be just a very emotional day. We are going to see what happens in court with Laffer and Melinda Brady," Daniel Taccetta told CBS 2's Jennifer McLogan.

"It's going to be hard to hold back," he said.

Laffer is charged with five counts of first-degree murder and four counts of criminal use of firearms. He pleaded not guilty to those charges back in June.

He was originally charged with only one count of first-degree murder and resisting arrest.

The five first-degree murder counts are for the deaths of the four victims and an umbrella charge for multiple murders, according to the indictment. Laffer and Brady were arrested on June 22 in connection with the murders. Police say Brady drove the getaway car. She, too, had pleaded not guilty in June.

In a police statement, Brady said that while she and her husband plotted the robbery at Haven Pharmacy, she did not know the plan involved killing.

Still shaken by the heinous crimes, Medford residents told CBS 2's McLogan they just want to put the entire ordeal behind them.

"He needs to hang. He needs to hang, his wife needs to hang," Medford homeowner Lisa Santiago said, adding when asked what the massacre had done to the community, "he destroyed it. He destroyed it."

"We went to school together. In high school, he dated a few of my friends. He was in ROTC. He was a good guy back then," homeowner Dorothy Quinn added.

"You have to get on with your life. You can't just lay down and let people like David Laffer take over," fellow resident Linda Ratto said.

Laffer faces life without parole on the murder charges and up to 25 years on each weapons charge. Brady faces up to 25 years in prison. The district attorney is expected to sit down with the families before the court session Thursday to give details on the guilty pleas, and explain why Brady is not facing the same charges as her husband.
