Prosecutor: 2 Men Killed In Newark Shootings
NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Two Newark men have been killed in separate shootings in the city. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray says 20-year-old Johnny L. Bivins was shot late Saturday night inside a chicken restaurant in the 400 block of 18th Avenue. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark, where he died a short time later.
The second victim, 22-year-old Raymond Barnes, was shot early Sunday in the 100 block of Jeliff Avenue. He also was taken to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 12:30 a.m.
It did not appear that the shootings were connected, and authorities were seeking motives for both incidents.
