Mayor Bloomberg Cuts Ribbon On New Uptown Century 21 Store

Wednesday morning, Mayor Michael Bloomberg cut the ribbon on the new Century 21 department store on Broadway at West 66th Street.

"If you live or you work in Lower Manhattan, the chances are you've been stopped by more than one tourist asking 'How do I get to Century 21?' and now that's going to happen on the Upper West Side," said Bloomberg.
Store owner Isaac Gindi told WCBS 880's Rich Lamb the move downtown was a natural decision.
"It's a whole other world over here. We have an opportunity to reach an amazing audience and give them our product," Gindi said.
The Upper West Side store brings with it 376 new jobs and Century 21 is also expanding its original Lower Manhattan site, adding another 300 jobs there.
"The more jobs we create, the better it is for everybody. That's what America is about, " said Gindi.
Gindi's sales pitch: "It's an exciting shopping experience. We offer tremendous value on designer merchandise, up to 65 percent off retail, and it's happening. It's better than going to the movies."
