Narcy Novack Facing Upgraded Charges In Deaths Of Husband, Mother-In-Law

WHITE PLAINS, NY (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Prosecutors are calling for life in prison for the wife accused of hiring hit men to kill her husband in a Westchester hotel.

Narcy Novack of Fort Lauderdale is now facing upgraded charges in the deaths of her husband and his mother.

A revised indictment was released Tuesday against the 54-year-old Novack and her brother, 57-year-old Cristobal Veliz of Brooklyn.

The indictment adds several new counts, including murder in aid of racketeering. A conviction on that charge would carry a mandatory sentence of life in prison.

Ben Novack was found dead in the Hilton in Rye Brook in 2009 , where his company had organized an Amway convention.

The new indictment also adds charges relating to the maiming of Ben Novack "by bludgeoning his head and body with dumbbells and slitting his eyes with a knife.''

Prosecutors say Novack also had her mother-in-law Bernice Novack killed. She was found dead in her Fort Lauderdale home.

The Novack's owned the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.

Prosecutors say Novack arranged the murders hoping to take over the family's multi-million dollar estate.

Novack and Veliz have pleaded not guilty. A court session on the new indictment is scheduled for Oct. 5.
