Park Slope Women On Guard After 11th Incident Linked To Sex Assault Spree

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police were increasing patrols in Park Slope Thursday night after another woman was sexually assaulted.  It was the 11th incident linked to a sexual assault spree since March, prompting a growing sense of fear and frustration.

"We just don't know who's going to be the next victim and it's really scary," Julie Pena told CBS 2's Sean Hennessey.

Pena is also frustrated, wondering if police can be doing more to find those responsible for the assaults.

"Why can't they have police women wearing skirts, texting on phones, walking around in heels up and down the block?" she asked.

Police said they have increased patrols and the presence of plainclothes officers. Still, Erin Kalagassy said she was followed just a few days ago.

"I turned around and sort of stared at him like, I realize what you're doing, and he turned around and walked back," Kalagassy said.

The latest attack happened as the victim was leaving the Prospect Avenue subway station.

Guardian Angels made their presence known at the subways and on the sidewalks, but some women weren't taking chances.

Nighttime has been the prime time for the attacks. So far, police only have two video images of the suspects.

Last week, the community sent a message with a take back the streets march and this week, residents met with police. Cops say there are two and maybe three men behind the attempted rapes.

Despite the danger, some refuse to give into the fear.
