Islanders Beat Devils 6-2

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Mark Streit, Matt Moulson and Frans Nielsen had three points each, and the New York Islanders beat the New Jersey Devils 6-2 in a preseason game on Saturday night.

Moulson scored twice and assisted on a first-period goal by Streit, the Islanders' new captain. Nielsen, Kyle Okposo, and Steve Staios also added goals for New York. Eight Islanders had at least one point, and New York held a 26-25 shots advantage.

"That's the way we want to play," Islanders forward John Tavares said. "We want to play fast, play hard and make it tough on teams to control our skill."

Al Montoya and Kevin Poulin both played half the game in the nets for the Islanders (1-1). Montoya allowed one goal on nine shots. Poulin turned away 14 of 15 shots.

"They played well," New York coach Jack Capuano said. "It's one position where there's some competition."

Nick Palmieri and Mattias Tedenby scored for the Devils (1-2), and Johan Hedberg allowed six goals on 26 shots while playing the entire game.

"Disappointed in the game and how we played," new Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. "You never like to stand behind the bench and watch that."
