Father, 3-Year-Old Son Found Dead In Englewood Apartment

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- Police in New Jersey do not suspect foul play after finding a father and his 3-year-old son dead in their Englewood apartment Monday morning.

CBS 2's Derricke Dennis reported that police were called around 8:30 a.m., when the mother of the child reported she couldn't get in contact with the dad.  She tried to get into the apartment on Lafayette Place, but the door was locked.

The woman then went to the police station and came back with police, who broke down the door to find the 53-year-old man and the young boy dead. Police discovered the father's body on top of the boy, 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon reported.

"That was my cousin -- he was a beautiful, little kid.  I love him," Felisha Smith told Rincon.

Smith said that Allen McNeil was a devoted, single dad and that Allen Jr. was his only child.  The family wasn't aware of any health problems that may have made McNeil collapse.

A neighbor said that McNeil was a big man.

"He's about -- well I'm 6 feet -- he's about 6'3'', around 240, 260.  Big guy," the neighbor said.

Yvonne Walston said she was heartbroken because the father and the son appeared to be inseparable.

"Excellent father. Every time I saw him -- always had the child with him.  And the only time I didn't see him with the child was when he was at work.  So, again I don't know anything about his history or the mother's history, but from what I can see, the child was definitely very well taken care of," Walston said.

Englewood police said there is no evidence of any foul play, but they'll conduct autopsies on both the father and son just to be sure.
