More Suspensions After More LIRR Signal Problems; Morning Situation Uncertain
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The severe weather that impacted our area continued to cause major service disruptions on the Long Island Rail Road Thursday night.

As of 11:30 p.m., trains heading east on the Ronkonkoma, Huntington, Long Beach and Babylon branches began moving hourly.
Al Jones of 1010 WINS reported earlier in the evening that the LIRR is still evaluating whether Thursday's problems will affect Friday morning's commute. A statement on its website said "we will continue to provide updates as soon as they are available."
"Customers are advised to seek alternate means of transportation while crucial repairs are made," LIRR said.
The continued delays are the result of weather-related signal trouble in Jamaica.
Speaking with 1010 WINS Thursday afternoon, LIRR spokesman Sam Zambuto said the trouble was caused by a "lightning strike that greatly affected the signal system."
Zambuto said that LIRR employees were out in the field "troubleshooting" and "making alternate arrangements for the movement of trains."
In addition, Zambuto warned customers that "when service is restored, there will be significant delays."
