Police Say They've Nabbed Suspected Livery Cab Bandit

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - They think they've got their man - well, one of them, anyway.

The New York Police Department says Elias Gonzalez, 22, is one of two men suspected of allegedly robbing three livery cabs in the Bronx.

Gonzalez, of 727 East 217th Street in the Bronx, has been charged with robbery, grand larceny, possession of stolen property and more.

Police say they're looking for his accomplice, who they identify as Llonnie Dempster, 19, of 37-41 Willett Avenue in the Bronx.

Police say the pair robbed three livery cabs.

In one incident on Sept. 18, police say Dempster wrapped something around the driver's neck and demanded money. Two days later, police say, Dempster tried the same thing again. This time, though, the driver tried to escape. So Dempster allegedly stabbed the driver in the neck. In the third instance, Sept. 23, police believe Dempster brough Gonzalez along with him for the robbery. They used the same M.O. of grabbing the driver around the neck.

If you have information about Dempster's whereabouts, you're asked to contact Crime Stoppers. You can do so by:

  • Calling 1-800-577-TIPS (8477). All calls are kept confidential
  • Log on to the Crime Stoppers website
  • Text your tip to CRIMES (274637), and then entering TIP577
