Now, there's a new idea that's reportedly gaining support.

It calls for the relocation of the coliseum, currently in Uniondale, to Belmont Park in Elmont.

There it would be combined with the racetrack and a proposed Native American casino.

One local homeowner said it might create too much traffic for the area.

However, a Belmont Park employee named James believes it could be a good thing.

"It's gonna be a little bit more busy. I think there might be even more jobs and stuff. It's worth it," he told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs.

Newsday reports the idea of moving the hockey arena to Belmont Park has the support of many key officials.

New York Islanders owner Charles Wang has said that he would take his team to a new area if a new or updated arena isn't in Nassau County for them.
