EAST PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) — A 22-year-old man has died after being struck by two cars while riding his bicycle on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say Eric Dennis was struck by a westbound Jeep on South Country Road in East Patchogue at about 9:30 Thursday night.

They say he wound up in the eastbound lanes of the roadway where he was struck a second time by a SUV. Police say the second vehicle did not stop.

Dennis, who lived up the street from the crash scene, was taken by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Police said Friday he later died of his injuries.

The Jeep was impounded for a safety check. Police are asking area residents for information on the second driver.

hey Frostie, don’t know for sure in your case, but guys that shoot their mouths off and generalize based on no relevant information are usually morons. And a lot of them are fat slobs who would drive even if they were only going a block away.

Dont know in this particular case, but many bicyclists not only endanger
    their lives but others.
They zip around cars where a car cannot see, get inbetween cars where no one
sees them, just because they are physically able to manuever and
not get penalized does not mean they should.
