Bicyclist Dies After Being Struck By 2 Cars On Long Island

EAST PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A 22-year-old man has died after being struck by two cars while riding his bicycle on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say Eric Dennis was struck by a westbound Jeep on South Country Road in East Patchogue at about 9:30 Thursday night.

They say he wound up in the eastbound lanes of the roadway where he was struck a second time by a SUV. Police say the second vehicle did not stop.

Dennis, who lived up the street from the crash scene, was taken by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center. Police said Friday he later died of his injuries.

The Jeep was impounded for a safety check. Police are asking area residents for information on the second driver.
