Police: Brooklyn Burglary Crew Splashing Bleach On ATMs To Remove Evidence

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police are looking for a group of suspects behind a rash of burglaries in Brooklyn who have a signature move that comes straight out of the movies to cover their tracks.

The crew appears to take a page out of the Ben Affleck flick "The Town" by splashing bleach to remove evidence as they hit ATMs and cash registers.

Eddie Ennab, the cashier at Nature's Delight on Fourth Avenue, said he came to work on Sept. 8 to find the burglars got away with about $2,000 from the store's ATM.

"It was a very, very clean hit," Ennab said. "They didn't take any cigarettes, they didn't take any beer, they didn't take any of the products lying around -- they just went straight for the ATM."

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the suspects struck 56 times after-hours over the past year, favoring 99-cent stores and small groceries in Bay Ridge, Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace.

"We believe that it had so many similarities that it is... one pattern. It may very well be a group of individuals," Kelly told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb.

The crew has reportedly made off with a total of nearly $250,000.
