Lt. Kevin Smith said there could be a variety of reasons for this, including folks driving less because of the economy and the bad weather we have had this year, including Hurricane Irene.
However, Smith said the commissioner is also investigating whether poor morale had anything to do with the drop in tickets.
If so, Smith says that would be addressed with the officers.
110,000 tickets have been written this year, compared with about 140,300 written in the same period in 2010.
Nassau County is facing a $310 million budget gap and may close two police precincts to help fill it.
