Police In Queens Looking For Attempted Sexual Assault Suspect

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Police in Queens are looking for a man wanted in an attempted sexual assault.

The NYPD released a sketch of the suspect who assaulted a 40-year-old woman in Springfield Gardens on Sunday.

Police say the man pushed the victim to the ground, punched her in the face and tried to rape her. He ran away when a neighbor heard the woman's call for help.

The suspect is believed to be about 30-years-old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds.

He was wearing a dark-colored shirt, dark baggy jeans and may have a cut on his hand.

Meanwhile, police have arrested a suspect who was wanted for a sexual assault that happened around midnight Sunday in Windsor Terrace.

Police say 26-year-old Adolfo Martinez faces charges of sex abuse in the 3rd degree.

Martinez allegedly grabbed a woman from behind and groped her as she was walking near Vanderbilt Avenue in Windsor Terrace. Police say he ran away when the woman screamed.

Police are now investigating if Martinez is the same suspect behind 12 sexual assaults that have happened in Brooklyn since March.

Victims have provided sketches to police and at least one assault was caught on camera, but a good description of the attacker and tangible physical evidence has proven elusive.

Anyone with information about the Queens attempted sexual assault or any of the attacks in Brooklyn should call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or go to www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
