Judge Denies NYC Request To Delay Firefighter Entrance Exams

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- A federal judge has denied the city's request to delay the upcoming firefighter entrance exams.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Brooklyn Judge Nicholas Garaufis cited the "unprecedented" number of applicants in his decision.

The exam has been subject to judicial oversight since it was determined past exams had been unfair to minority candidates.

The city had asked to delay the January 2012 exam so it could develop "additional equivalent test questions."

With 60,000 applicants, it said the exam would need to be given over five weeks, increasing the possibility of cheating.
