Crews Working To Clean Central Park From Downed Trees Ahead Of NYC Marathon
NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- Central Park was hit hard by the weekend snow storm and workers have been trying to get the park cleaned up in time for the New York City Marathon.

Nearly a thousand trees were badly damaged in Central Park by the storm.
"The south end looks pretty much like a war zone, " said one jogger.

The Park Conservancy is working feverishly to remove and prune the damaged trees in time for Sunday's New York City Marathon.
The race ends in Central Park and is celebrated by hundreds of thousands of runners and spectators.
The park has a total of about 24,000 trees. Replacement of the trees could cost up to $500,000.
Other parts of the city were also damaged by the wet, heavy snow. Officials at the New York Botanical Gardens said tree limbs and branches are everywhere.
A storm in 2009 destroyed large stretches of the northern end of Central Park taking down 500 trees in 30 minutes.
