Report: Brooklyn City Councilman Charles Barron Lauds Gadhafi As 'My Hero'

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - New York City Councilman Charles Barron may find himself in hot water after praising Moammar Gadhafi.

According to a published report, Barron described Moammar Gadhafi as "My hero, an African freedom fighter."

The Daily News says that Barron spoke at a memorial held for Gadhafi in Bedford-Stuyvesant, reportedly likening the dead dictator to Nelson Mandela.

He reportedly called Gadhafi an "African freedom fighter."

Barron also reportedly denied any Gadhafi  involvement in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 or that he brutalized his own people.

Barron, a former Black Panther, joined the City Council in 2002. His current term expires at the end of 2013.
