The Corduroy Appreciation Club in New York City is celebrating the once-in-a-lifetime occurrence with the "Grandest Meeting of All" of corduroy fanatics.

The club says the date 11/11/11 most closely resembles the fabric they love, and to honor it and the date, the club has been searching for what it calls the "Corduroy Messiah," a child who is turning 11-years-old on 11/11/11.

No word if their corduroy Messiah has been found, but the president of the club is set to give a speech about "the continued campaign against velvet and the state of corduroy in a post-11/11/11 world."

While the Corduroy Appreciation Club celebrates their favorite fabric, others are hoping 11/11/11 will be their lucky day.

One man told 1010 WINS' John Montone he'll be picking up some lottery tickets.

In Atlantic City, the Trump Taj Mahal is planning drawings every 11 minutes for up to $1,111.

Others believe a reawakening of the human consciousness will occur.

"Eleven is a number of illumination and enlightenment, a number of insight, blinding flashes of the obvious, and a number of transformation,'' said Vikki MacKinnon, a numerologist in Calgary, Ontario.

But Daniel Jones from the Lower East Side says he heard the world was supposed to end on 11/11/11.

"It's supposed to be what you call, an apocalypse," he said. "But who knows what to expect in New York these days."

At least one Manhattan couple took advantage of the rare date. Ahna Tessler and John Harrison picked the date of 11/11/11 to have their twins via a C-section.

Their twins, a boy and a girl, were delivered Friday morning at St. Lukes-Roosevelt Hospital.

"It's the luckiest day of the year, and its Veterans Day and it's got the right feeling -- that we're able to have equality," Dennis told 1010 WINS' Stan Brooks.

"I was actually on a date with my girlfriend, felt like I needed to be at the party, dropped her off early, went to the party met Joey and then that was it," Dennis told WCBS 880 reporter Alex Silverman.

On the other side of the world in China, the date is viewed as auspicious and romantic and about 1,000 couples across Malaysia also have their wedding date as 11/11/11.

In Shanghai, a special "1111'' train started at 11:11 a.m. on the No. 11 line.

And millions of clocks around the world will at some point read 11:11:11 on 11/11/11 and if you add up all those ones, it will equal 12.
