But more than 30 percent of the people who scheduled a visit on the 9/11 memorial website over the past two months have failed to show up at their reserved date and time.

"It's something that we fully expect, and actually I'm a little bit surprised that the show rate is as high as it is. These are absolutely free passes. People are allowed to book six months in advance," said memorial president and CEO Joe Daniels.

The memorial has now reduced the number of passes available that far in advance, and made more available to those asking a month, a week, a day, or just hours ahead of time.

"We make it very easy for people to get day of passes as well. They come to the preview site on Vesey between Church and Broadway and we hand out lots of passes in the morning for later on in the day," Daniels told WCBS 880 reporter Rich Lamb.

Daniels says he's thrilled a half million people have already visited the memorial.
