Toys R Us Catching Grief For Selling Doll That Appears To Curse

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- So do you think it's baby talk or trashy talk?

People were asking themselves that Tuesday after listening to dolls that sound like they're cursing.

They are the "Play and Giggle" triplets. They're part of the "You and Me" collection made for and sold exclusively at Toys R Us. Activated by movement, the dolls make dozens of sounds like adorable giggles, sweet murmurs and a few clear words.

But there are other words that some say clearly cross the line.

"OK, crazy b**ch," being one term.

"It said b**ch! That is not even right!" shopper Kathleen Leitzke told CBS 2's Elise Finch.

Finch had shoppers listen closely, with some saying it sounds like the doll is using the "B" word.

"It's pretty clear to me that it said the 'B' word," said Dana D'Agostino of Staten Island.

"That was the one that I was like what was that?" added shopper Laurie Baughman.

Some shoppers said it sounds like a full phrase where one of the dolls says "OK, you crazy b**ch." For that reason they say Toys R Us should stop selling the dolls.

"I think they should pull it off shelves. Kids should definitely not have a doll that's saying that," D'Agostino said.

Finch spoke to a representative for Toys R Us who told her that "Toys R Us would not sell any doll that curses, obviously its baby babble. We are not pulling the doll off the shelves."

One mother said she understands the store's position because children often make strange sounds when they're learning to speak.

"It does sound like they're saying something else rather than what they're actually trying to say. So it happens. It does happen," Tina Baughman said.

But some people are convinced these babies aren't just babbling and that they're cursing, which is ironic because the packaging says the dolls are meant to encourage little girls to share love and kindness. But on Tuesday it seemed like their words were only encouraging controversy.

The "Play and Giggle" triplet dolls sell for $49.99, but they're currently on sale for $39.99.
