NEW YORK (WFAN) — Mets fans know they have an ally in comedian Jerry Seinfeld.

But we all learned something new last week: Seinfeld has a new puppy named Jose.

Yes, Jose. As in Jose Reyes.

Seinfeld debuted his black-and-tan (no, not orange-and-blue) dachshund during his co-hosting gig on “LIVE!” with Kelly Ripa.

“This is Jose that we just got and we got him because the Seinfeld family loves Jose Reyes so much, and we want the Mets to keep Jose Reyes,” he said last Tuesday. “We want you to make a deal with Jose Reyes. That’s what we want. … He’s my favorite baseball player. He’s the most thrilling baseball player.”

Unfortunately for Seinfeld, WFAN’s Craig Carton caught the spot and later called him out for an apparent lack of machismo. On Friday, Seinfeld called in to clear the air between himself, Carton and co-host Boomer Esiason.

“I’m talking about my kids, I’m holding a puppy,” said the fired-up funnyman. “How do you want me to talk, like Charles Bronson?”

And what’s with his new haircut?

“Of course I don’t look well, I’m old!” the comedian exclaimed. “You’re watching reruns from the ’80s, I’m not gonna look like that!”

If you want to see the new-look Seinfeld, he’ll be performing on Monday, Dec. 5 at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. Jon Stewart and Colin Quinn will join him on stage for a show to benefit Baby Buggy, an non-profit organization founded by Jessica Seinfeld.

Boomer and Carton are welcome to come, said Seinfeld. But they’ll have to pay.

After all, it’s for charity.

The dueling duo can agree on one thing: they love Reyes. Boomer? Not so much. Not after the NL batting champion infamously pulled himself after one at-bat during the last game of the season.

“That was a huge, rotten tomato,” said Seinfeld. “That was horrible. And if he does go, we’ll focus on that.”
