Ticketmaster To Pay Customers In Settlement

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- If you used Ticketmaster over the last 12 years, you're eligible for a payout.

An $11 million class action settlement forced the company to give customers a $1.50 credit per ticket order.

"It is a little bit but something's better than nothing," said tourist Sean Bradley.

"I think $1.50 back is alright. In this day and age, we'll take it," added Mike Nowicki.

Ticketmaster's troubles began when some Bruce Springsteen fans accused the company of deception, charging more and profiting off hidden fees. Then came the class action suit filed by attorneys on behalf of tens of thousands of angry ticket buyers.

"I did get charged extra service charges on top of the tickets," said Kristin Doheny of Flushing.

Customers can redeem the credits over the next four years. To get the money, previous Ticketmaster purchases must have been made between Oct. 21, 1999 and Oct. 19, 2011, with order processing fees and only for U.S. residents.

Those who qualify will be sent a code via e-mail to enter when making Ticketmaster purchases. However, some customers who spoke with CBS 2's Dave Carlin said having to go back to Ticketmaster to get new tickets to get the $1.50 off is wrong.

"They have your name, number, they should just mail you the check," said Joe Catizone of Sayville.

"Nope doesn't sound like enough," said tourist Dana Harvey from San Antonio, Texas.

Critics of Ticketmaster said the company's various fees could add 40 percent or more to the cost of a ticket. Ticketmaster will still profit from those fees but must be transparent about them.
