NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Never over-estimate the power of the graphic t-shirt. The guy whose shirts failed to prevent the Mets from trading Jose Reyes is coming out with a new one with a new demand.

LISTEN: 1010 WINS’ John Montone reports

Darren Meenan is the Mets fan from Queens who has been printing Mets-themed t-shirts for fellow die-hard fans since launching his own company, The 7 Line, on the last home game of the 2009 season.

The line’s best-seller says: “Don’t Trade Reyes.”

“The ‘Don’t Trade Reyes’ movement spread so quick to every single game the Mets are playing it, whether it was home or on the road” Meenan told 1010 WINS’ John Montone.

But now, Meenan says the company has a new hit aimed at Mets owners Fred and Jeff Wilpon. It simply says “Sell The Team.”

“It’s apparent the reason Jose is not a Met is because of the Wilpons,” he said.

Meenan thinks the new shirt will be a hit.

“I have close to 9,500 fans on the Facebook page and I put up different t-shirt ideas almost daily and I put up the ‘Sell The Team’ shirt idea and it was the most popular one I’ve ever put up,” said Meenan.

If you want to buy the new shirt, you can trade in your “Don’t Trade Reyes” t-shirt and get a $10 rebate. All donated shirts will be donated to local shelters in Queens but they must be in wearable condition.

The Mets should sue him for making illegal T-Shirts

    1. Darren says:

What’s illegal? Look at the website idiot. No trademark infringements. No shirt says METS or has their logos. Read a book.

      1. ? says:

What really should be made illegal is the New York Mets. They’ve become the joke of baseball, right up there with their fans, like Gary Matthews called them, “a bunch of cry babies”

    Hey mike,

As my mama always said, If you’ve got nothing nice to say, STFU a$$wipe.

    1. ... says:

So what did the “Don’t Trade Reyes’ T-Shirt get you, nothing. Reyes took the Marlins money & ran. All it did was make the guy money, don’t believe it was donated.

So now this new T-Shirt he’s selling ”Sell The Team.” I’m sure that will work out very well. LOL, LOL

This guy knows Mets fans are stupid & gullible, they buy into this nonsense. Just look at MetsFanSince69, I’m sure he bought a few of the “Don’t Trade Reyes’ t-shirts.

The only thing these t-shirts are good for is STFU a$$wipe
“Mets Suck” t-shirts would be better sellers.

      1. Chris says:

Darren did make money off the “Don’t Trade Reyes” shirts, because that’s why he made them. He didn’t donate the money and never claimed to.

What he *is* doing is donating the shirts that are returned to him to claim the rebate for the new “Sell the Team” shirts. (Similar to the Patriots 19-0 Superbowl shirts donated to impoverished children in other countries).

If you don’t like the team that’s fine, but The 7 Line has created shirts and donated money to foundations before (notably 9/11 workers and Brain Cancer funds). Don’t denounce the company or the man for turning his passion for a sports team into a profitable business venture and a job that he loves.

Darren, keep doing what you’re doing, man. Your fans love your stuff and you’re a voice for a lot of us. You do business the right way. If I’ve ever got an extra ticket, I’ll hit McFadden’s looking for you!

        1. Darren says:

          Thanks Chris

MAKE ONE THAT SAYS My Entire Team Sucks

  3. mike says:
