Schumer, Brewers Statewide Launch 'I Love NY Brew' Campaign

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- New Yorkers love their beer and now there's a new campaign to share that love and some of New York's unique microbrews with the rest of the world.

U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer and brewers statewide on Wednesday are launching an "I Love NY Brew'' promotion.

The goal is for the growing New York beer brewing industry to work with convenience stores and New York City bars and restaurants to get more space on shelves and on menus for the state's beers.

The effort would push the products of New York breweries including four in the Rochester and Finger Lakes area, seven in the Hudson Valley, 15 in the Southern Tier, seven in the Capital Region and 10 on Long Island.

"Craft breweries have catapulted New York to the top shelf of beer states, and our beers are more than ready for prime time," Schumer said in a statement. "Whether you are searching for a six-pack at your local 7-Eleven or grabbing Buffalo wings with a beer after work, you should have a wide assortment of locally brewed beers to choose from."

Schumer says the beer brewing now employs 60,000 workers and is one of state's fast growing industries.

He says in the New York City-metropolitan area alone, there are 10 breweries on Long Island, seven in the Hudson Valley and five in the city.
