Westchester County Exec Vetoes 27 Items In 2012 Budget

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- The Westchester county executive has vetoed 27 items in the 2012 budget proposed by county lawmakers.

Most of County Executive Rob Astorino's vetoes are likely to be overridden by the Legislature. He acknowledged that last week when he expressed general satisfaction with the budget and the bipartisan process.

Among the vetoes announced Wednesday are county funds for neighborhood health centers, day care subsidies and a bus route that Astorino said loses $8 per passenger.

The $1.69 billion budget includes about 30 layoffs. It does not raise taxes.

In neighboring Rockland County, County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef approved the $702 million budget passed by the Legislature. But he warned that it assumes an increase in the county sales tax rate, which has yet to be approved by the state.
