Members of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council have for years been pushing Metro-North Railroad to test out quiet cars on the New Haven Line.

Jim Cameron, president of the council, says commuters will get to try them out in just a couple of weeks.

"Because it's designated as a quiet car, they will be guaranteed a quiet ride. There won't be cell phone conversations. There won't be loud, boisterous chatter," he said.

Cameron says passengers who tried out the quiet cars on the Hudson and Harlem Lines gave rave reviews.

The cars come to the New Haven Line on January 9 on 18 trains during the morning and evening peak hours, which will be marked with a "Q" on the timetable.

So far, people have said they like the quiet cars. It this continues, Metro-North could have a full-system roll-out of quiet cars in April.
