New York Cares Helps New Yorkers Stay Warm With Coats

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) - 53-year-old Wendell Harden was among those who found a new coat today at the New York City Rescue Mission on Christmas, thanks to New York Cares.

He lost his home six months ago, but this will help him get into the spirit of the season. Now he has a full-length cashmere.

"This is about giving and about reaching out for other people. It's not about feeling sorry for yourself."

New York Cares executive director Gary Bagley says there are people who need help.

"The need is up in the city. We're still struggling with the economy," he told WCBS 880 reporter Peter Haskell.

Bagley admits they have a long way to go before reaching their goal of a 100,000 donated coats.
