NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — Tuesday night’s Mega Millions jackpot is up to $206 million and has people across our area hoping it will bring a great start to their new year.

“I would move to Beverly Hills, get a Beamer,” said Upper West Side resident Johnny Perez. “All the cars I ever wanted in my life.”

The jackpot has been building since Nov. 1. There were no winners during Friday’s drawing, bringing the total to a whopping $206 million.

Simos Papilias of Toronto, who’s visiting New York City, says he’s tempted to purchase a ticket.

“You’re looking at $100 million after the U.S IRS is done with it,” he said. “Which is still more than enough for this cat. I would still take it.”

It seems that almost everybody who has purchased a ticket believes that they have a winner.

“I have the winning ticket, see,” said a laughing Alvern King of Brownsville.

“I’m feeling really lucky today. It’s a Quick Pick, I have to hit one of them,” added another man.

And one man who knows that the odds are stacked against him told CBS2’s Kathryn Brown that he was playing anyway.

“You’re talking way too much money to not take a chance,” he said.

The odds of hitting the jackpot is one in 175 million.
