Isabella & Jayden Rank As Top Names For NYC Babies In 2010

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork/AP) -- Isabella and Jayden are still big in the Big Apple, and Chloe, Jacob and Joseph are gaining ground.

The New York City Health Department said Wednesday that Jayden remained the most popular name for newborn boys in 2010. Isabella held steady as the top choice for girls. Both names were also number-ones in 2009.

The names Sophia, for girls, and Ethan, for boys ranked number 2 in terms of New York City popularity for 2010.

It takes the city a year to compile the list because many birth certificates are initially filed without names and then updated later.

While the lists held pretty steady from 2009 to 2010, Chloe replaced Ashley and Jacob and Joseph bumped out Alexander and Christopher.

The number of babies born in the city dropped by 1.6 percent, to 124,791. That number included 41,469 new births in Brooklyn, 26,955 in in Queens, 21,258 in the Bronx, 19,646 in Manhattan and 5,580 on Staten Island.

The federal Social Security Administration says Isabella and Jacob were the top baby names nationwide in 2010.
