U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner's rise through politics seemed headed straight for Gracie Mansion, but it was gone in a tweet.

"The photograph does not look familiar to me, but before I say anything, I want to make sure that nothing was manipulated about it," said Weiner when the scandal first broke open.

The Brooklyn/Queens Congressman's career was undone, but not necessarily by the racy photo sent to a Twitter follower, but by the days of deception, bold denials, and parsing of words.

"Congressman, I think the main question that everyone has is 'Was that a picture of you?'," asked a reporter.

"Well, the main question that a lot of people are asking is 'Did I send the photograph?' I did not. This was a prank, a hoax," answered Weiner.

"So, it sounds like it was a photo of you," replied the reporter.

"Well, we're gonna try to find out exactly what happened," said Weiner.

It didn't add up and finally Wiener broke down.

"I've done things that I deeply regret. I brought pain to people I care about the most and people who believed in me, and for that, I'm deeply sorry," said Weiner.

Sure, he had his defenders.

"I know one thing. He wasn't going with prostitutes. He wasn't going into the men's room with broad stances," said Harlem U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel.

"The chorus grows for Anthony Weiner to resign," reported WCBS 880's Alex Silverman.

But the late night jokes, made all too easy by his surname, proved too much.

Finally, on June 16, he said, "Today, I am announcing my resignation from Congress."

Last week, Anthony Weiner got some good news. He became a daddy. He sent the news to friends in an e-mail.
