Tri-State Area Frosted By Bitter Blast

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - Baby, it's cold outside.

It comes as no surprise that January brings cold temperatures, but after the balmy long weekend that saw temperatures in the 50s, Tuesday's expected 30 degree high feels downright frigid. That'll be especially true when the wind kicks in.

Things are going to get worse before they get better, said Justin Lewis, CBS 2's weather producer. He's worried about Wednesday.

"It looks like it will likely be the coldest morning of the year, and the coldest afternoon of the year so far," said Lewis.

The normal high for this time of year would be about 39 degrees - we're coasting around the normal low of 28.

"Layer up. Gotta get the gloves, hats, coats and extra thick socks out," said Lewis.

There is some relief in sight: By Friday, the temperature is expected to return to the high 40s, and we're expecting to punch into the 50s on Saturday.
