Weekend Shootings Send 2 To Hospital In Paterson

PATERSON, N.J. (AP) -- Two people were hospitalized after being wounded in unrelated shootings during a violent weekend in Paterson.

Authorities say a 16-year-old boy was struck in the head and face with a handgun during a street robbery late Saturday night. The teen then resisted when the robber reached into his pockets looking for money, and the robber then shot the teen in the left torso before fleeing.

The teen then went to the nearby home of a relative, who took him to the hospital.

The second shooting occurred around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, when a 25-year-old city man was shot multiple times in the upper body.

Authorities believe he was shot near Summer and Essex streets, where a large group had been gathered. A handgun was later found there by officers.
