Lucas Gabriel, of Englishtown, filled up a U-Haul truck with 342 boxes containing 20,000 books and delivered them to The Center for Fiction in Manhattan on Friday.

1010 WINS' Juliet Papa reports Gabriel started collecting the books in August.

His mother said Gabriel handed out fliers and went to garage sales to reach his goal.

This is the second year in a row the Christian Brothers Academy sophomore decided to collect books for a school volunteer project after learning that many children don't have access to books at home and many schools don't have book-buying budgets.

The center's Books for NYC Schools Program will distribute the books to public schools as well as youth and community organizations throughout the five boroughs.

Last year, Gabriel collected 10,000 books. He hopes triple the number the next year.
