L.I. Man Charged With Murdering Girlfriend

MASTIC, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) -- Suffolk County Police have arrested a 35-year-old man after he killed his live-in girlfriend in their Mastic home Saturday.

Justin Miller and his girlfriend, Teresa Heredia, 29, both of 26 Bullard St., were having a verbal altercation when, police say, he choked and killed her at approximately 11 a.m.

Miller called his sister who did not reside with the couple and she called police.

When Seventh Precinct officers arrived, they found Heredia unconscious. She was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where she was pronounced dead.

Homicide Squad detectives charged Miller with Murder 2nd Degree and he is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.

The couple's seven-month-old child, who was home at the time of the incident, was not injured. The child was released to a relative.
