Bloomberg Lauds Giants Victory, Plans Super Bowl Bet With Boston Mayor

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Speaking for the first time since the big game, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he's sure his San Francisco counterpart will be thrilled to live up to his end of their friendly bet and is looking forward to a friendly Super Bowl wager with his counterpart in New England.

"He'll be thrilled to have a cable car painted in Giants colors or whatever the agreement is. He'll be thrilled to send us some sourdough bread," Bloomberg said of San Francisco's Mayor Edwin Lee.

Bloomberg said he really enjoyed the Giants 20-17 overtime win over the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. Had the outcome been different, Bloomberg would have had to name 49th Street "49ers Street."

"It was a good game. I loved the game. I always like scoring games that are in contention right up until the end -- this certainly was and I'm glad the Giants won," he told reporters, including 1010 WINS' Sonia Rincon.

While the mayor plans to take his daughters to Indianapolis for the Super Bowl XLVI on Feb. 5, he joked that he may not be able to get tickets.

Bloomberg was at the Giants-Patriots Super Bowl four years ago in Phoenix and joked that his presence there may have had something to do with New York's victory.

"I went four years ago and the results were fantastic. I don't know that my being there had anything to do with it, but it didn't hurt," he said.

Meanwhile, the mayor says that his staff will work out a similar wager with Boston Mayor Thomas Menino and expressed confidence that the Giants would once again be champions.

"He's a good guy, I really like him and I think when he loses any bet that he makes, he will also take it in the spirit that it was meant," Bloomberg said.
