Stories From Main Street: Woodsplitting In Larchmont, And A Great Deal!

LARCHMONT, NY (WCBS 880) - Bob Borsody from Larchmont is a modern-day Paul Bunyan, with a pretty straightforward proposition. If you have wood, logs, he'll split them.

"It's free," he said.

When he sees a falling tree, Borsody even leaves a note in the mailbox.

"And the note says, 'I see you've had a tree down. I like to split wood weekends for exercise. I do it for free.' I say that three or four times," he says, adding that if the person lets him split it, he'll pile it wherever they want.

Some people go to the gym or play golf, but Bob Borsody splits wood.

His monster maul weighs 22 pounds.

"When you swing that for a while, you work up a sweat," he said.

Sometimes, though, he just uses a wedge.

He'll even stack the split wood in the form of a little house for the kids to play in.

So, Bob has a message for those who live nearby. If you live within a half an hour of Larchmont, and you need some splitting, call him. He's 74-years-old, fit as a fiddle, and looking for some old-time exercise.

"It's very satisfying to hit that and see it split. Quite different from lifting a 50-pound weight, three sets of 15 reps," he said.
