Bronx DA Opens Investigation After Video Shows Cops Allegedly Beating, Kicking Suspect

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- The Bronx District Attorney's office and the NYPD have opened investigations into the actions of four Bronx police officers caught on video allegedly beating and kicking a drug suspect.

The officers from the 42nd Precinct have been stripped of their guns and shields and placed on modified duty.

In the video, which was posted on YouTube last weekend, the officers can be seen placing the suspect, 19-year-old Jatiek Reed, against a wall on East 168th Street.

For a moment, Reed appears to be resisting arrest.

Several officers can then be seen hitting Reed repeatedly with their batons.

After Reed falls to the ground, the officers can then be seen kicking and punching him while another officer appears to hold him down.

Shortly before the video cuts out, one of the officers appears to point Mace at the person videotaping the alleged beating.

Reed has been charged with assault.

Police Commissioner Ray Kelly called the video "troubling."
