LI Assoc. Upset MTA Reportedly Considers Metro-North Penn Station Plan

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - The head of the Association for a Better Long Island doesn't like hearing that the MTA is considering the merits of a plan to operate Metro-North trains into Penn Station, at the possible expense of some Long Island Rail Road service.

"Somebody will pay a price and the object is to see to it that Long Island continues to get its fair share," Desmond Ryan said on Monday. "Taking into consideration that we already pay an enormous amount for the MTA tax, it's crucial that Long Island does not continue to be on the receiving end of a decision that will hurt the region."

Ryan doesn't see a scenario where Metro-North service could be added to Penn Station without impacting the LIRR. So, he's prepared to fight.

"This is going to be an issue that will directly impact every commuter and every taxpayer here in Nassau and Suffolk County," Ryan told WCBS 880 Long Island Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. "It's a fight worth having, absolutely."
