Fire Displaces Families, Injures Firefighters In Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBSNewYork) -- A fast-moving fire injured over a dozen firefighters in Jersey City Sunday.

Flames could be seen shooting through the roof of a two-story building at the corner of Monticello and Fairmount Avenues.

Investigators say the fire started inside a ground-floor laundromat and quickly spread to the apartments above and nearby building.

Firefighters had to climb on the first floor ledge to fight the flames.

One woman who was working inside the laundromat noticed the flames and hustled everyone out while calling 911.

Seventeen firefighters had to be treated for minor injuries.

The Red Cross is helping 19 displaced families.
