High Wind Warning In Effect As 60 MPH Gusts Expected Saturday

 NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) -- A high wind warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Saturday across the Tri-state area where wind gusts could hit up to 60 miles per hour.

The wind warning includes New York City, Long Island, eastern portions of northeast New Jersey and coastal portions of southeast Connecticut. Wind advisories are in effect for other parts of the region.

Winds are expected to be between 25 to 35 mph but could get up to 60 mph. Forecasters say the strongest wind gusts will be in the afternoon and are capable of bringing down trees, large branches and power lines.

The MTA has asked drivers to reduce speeds on the Cross Bay, Marine Parkway and the Bronx-Whitestone and Throgs Neck bridges.

The buildings department has advised property owners and contractors to secure their sites.

In Conn., Gov. Dannel Malloy said he will partially activate the state emergency operations center this morning to monitor the situation.
